Every Friday is a Good Friday

I think every Friday is a good Friday, and this one is no different, even though it gets a special title and time off.

I have the day off, and I’ll take it no problem, although I don’t feel it should be considered a “holiday.” All religious holidays, from all belief systems, should be on the calendar or none of them.

Of course that would mean barely working during the year, but it’s still valid. Companies are “forced” to recognize “Good Friday,” which is fine, but there aren’t days off for Yom Kippur, Ramadan, or Cinco de Mayo?

Where are the memorial days and days of remembrance for all the wars started with and crimes against the Native Americans in the name of Manifest Destiny?

These are important days to their respective cultures, but only the Christian days are officially recognized. You can take a “Floating Holiday” if that’s your thing, which is useful, but at the same time insulting.

I don’t observe anything on Good Friday, nor do I care about Easter, they are two more days of the week in the month. I simply disagree with picking and choosing to celebrate the Christian approved holidays and telling every one else to piss off.

Take all the Christian holidays off the calendar, and give more floating holidays across the board, or recognize all of them.

We’ll waste time on Columbus, and his spreading of disease and oppression, but shaft holidays that celebrate harmony and good deeds.

The US is a beautiful blend of peoples and cultures, with all holidays being equally important. It is inappropriate to hand out days off just to the Christian ones.

Mark it on the calendar for it’s meaning to certain groups so everyone can be educated, but stop making it an observed day off while snubbing the others. It’s rude and exclusionary.
