Hail the 15th Amendment and the Right to Vote regardless of race, color, or previous condition of servitude

On this day in 1870, the government finally pulled it’s head out of it’s ass and acknowledged the Right for most citizens. It’s shocking and shameful it took a Constitutional Amendment to acknowledge a basic human right. And the fact it took another amendment to stop the idea of owning another human being. You would think being a human being and a citizen of the United States would be enough. Clearly it’s not. Do we really have to spell it out like this? Are we that stupid and prejudice? Nevermind, the question answers itself. Fifteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution

Satanic Meditation

Wow, looking up terms related to meditation opens the usual book of Christian crazy. Since meditation is the act of an individual looking inward rather than skyward, to see what kind of actions they can take to effect positive change on themselves, it gets labeled “satanic.” The common Christian thread is that you have no control over your life. You must submit to the power and will of JC, or else you live a false and deluded life. Unhappiness comes from living as a reckless individual and working to solve your own problems. There is no problem the lord can’t solve. These devolve into a series of grossly idiotic statements with wild assertions. To save time and pain, here’s a couple watered down versions. I’ll say straight up that my self-centric form of meditation doesn’t have anything to do with chakras. There is no summoning of Satan, because that’s not a thing. There is no trust in JC, because that’s not […]

Dealing with Social Anxiety

Even though we’re in a ridiculously connected digital world, there are plenty of us with social anxiety, a term I wasn’t familiar with a few years ago. I’ve taken plenty of personality tests for work and personal interest, and on a scale of 1 to 10, I rate a 9 for introvert. No shocker there, I knew that part decades ago. The social anxiety is a bit new, at least in terms of understanding. It’s something I, and others, attributed to being shy. And while I am shy and reserved, it’s not quite the same. Speaking of not quite the same, social anxiety and antisocial are NOT the same. I’m impressed at how many people admit or acknowledge their anxiety. It wasn’t addressed a few years ago. Equally, I’m impressed with a few of my previous managers who’ve noted it as a trait within me and used it to acknowledge my support role. It’s not, you’re a loner and refuse […]

Three years of Covid lockdown

Tomorrow will mark 3 years of working remotely and spending 99.5% away from public spaces. I remember the day well as it was Friday the 13th, an auspicious day for several reasons. Add to that a full moon. In the movies, it was the right conditions to leave the office and go into hiding. The transition to working remotely wasn’t a big leap for me. My previous job already had a work from home policy, and most people spent November and December outside the office. We used laptops and I already had a home desk setup. Further, all my work is connecting to remote systems, so an Internet connection is an Internet connection. Plus, when you’re an introvert with some social anxiety, not being around people all day is a bit of a bonus. Despite what people say and how they’d like to play it, this Covid pandemic isn’t over. It’s nowhere near as severe and deadly, but it’s not […]

The Satanic Altar

Satanic Altar, those two words strike fear and bring people to the point of soiling themselves. It immediately conjures up images of a red pentagram drawn on the floor surrounded by black candles, people in dark hooded robes chanting some arcane verse, writing 666 on every surface, and of course, the naked woman as the altar table. Fact, fiction, or LaVey? To be fair, a lot of this is exactly what LaVey showed off to the media for shock value and publicity, and it totally worked. He took the old cliches and stereotypes and turned them into new cliches and stereotypes. The media loved the sex and scandal. People loved the blasphemy. You can find dozens of photos of LaVey at his altar with Baphomet flags, candles on large pedestals, ceremonial chalice, and dagger all while wearing a dark hooded devil costume. It was both mockery and making a statement. But really, what is the Satanic Altar? Is there really […]
