To be clear, it’s non-theistic Satanism
I’ve seen it referenced in several places, so it’s worth pointing out that there is a difference between non-theistic Satanism and theistic Satanism. Not everyone makes the distinction, but when I use the term Satanism, it specifically means – non-theistic Satanism. There is no belief in a literal, or supernatural Satan.
Non-theistic Satanism is a spiritual philosophy or belief system that does not recognize the existence of a supernatural being referred to as Satan. In this context, Satan is viewed as a metaphorical representation of personal empowerment, individualism, anti-authoritarianism and rebellion.
Non-theistic Satanism is a modern and diverse movement, but most non-theistic Satanists share certain principles, such as:
- Self-empowerment and individualism: Non-theistic Satanists strive to be their own masters, take charge of their lives and become the best possible versions of themselves.
- Autonomy and freedom: Non-theistic Satanism promotes the freedom of the individual, including freedom from external forces such as religious, political, or societal norms that may infringe upon personal liberties.
- Rationality and critical thinking: Non-theistic Satanists revere science, reason and skepticism while rejecting dogmatic beliefs without evidence.
- Compassion: Non-theistic Satanism recognizes the inherent worth and dignity of all individuals, promoting empathy and ethical behavior.
To follow the principles of non-theistic Satanism means to embrace these guiding principles as a means of improving one’s life and asserting one’s individuality while rejecting religious dogma or supernatural beliefs. Non-theistic Satanists often develop their own rituals and practices, ranging from meditation and self-reflection to symbolically-informed ritual magic.
It’s important to note that though Non-theistic Satanism shares some principles with theistic Satanism, the two are ideologically distinct. Theistic Satanism believes in the existence of Satan as a deity and may practice obedience towards Satan or demons. Non-theistic Satanism, on the other hand, does not believe in any deities or supernatural forces and emphasizes individual empowerment and autonomy.
