This Covid pandemic isn’t over

Despite the wishful thinking, this Covid pandemic isn’t over. There are lots of comments stating, “Now the pandemic is over…” Or, “With the pandemic behind us…”

Things are better for sure, but those are dangerous things to say. Not only is Covid in full swing, it won’t ever go away. Like flu and colds, it’s here to stay.

I’m a cycling fan and during the Tour of Italy in May, there were dozens of riders taken out because of positive Covid tests.

It’s the second week of the Tour de France, and there are a dozen positive Covid tests again.

In my own world, my manager has had Covid twice. At least a dozen people in the company have tested positive. For a company of less than 100 people, that’s a high percentage.

The masks are down, distancing is forgotten, and caution is thrown to the wind.

People can want for the past, but this is the normal.

My extreme introversion has been a strength these last two and a half years. I don’t like gyms, so I bought exercise equipment long before the lockdowns happened. I have a bike, rowing machine, weights, and go outside for walks when no one is close by.

I can’t say I’ve been bored either. There are tens of thousands of movies on demand. There is near endless content on YouTube. Millions of books are available digitally and as audiobooks.

Between Steam, the Apple App Store, and the Microsoft Store, there is no end to games to play. The games available for the iPad is staggering.

I do play some multiplayer games and talk/chat with people over Discord.

Going further, it’s easy to have virtual visits through Zoom, Slack, Discord, Teams, TeamSpeak, and FaceTime. When it first splattered all over the fan, virtual Zoom lunches, dinners and game nights were easy to set up.

We need to keep that going. The waves of Covid are still crashing over us. We’re in the middle of one now.

Each time it starts to subside, people drop their guard and we start over. It’s one step forward, two steps back.

Wearing the mask is a hot bit of science.

Staying home is the smart choice.

It may not always be fun, but it’s better than the alternative.
