Theistic Satanism

To reiterate, in my view, theistic Satanism is more closely aligned with what many people would consider “devil worship.” There is nothing wrong with, to each their own, but theistic Satanism holds there to be a real Satan, just as there is a real God, and is an object of worship. I do not subscribe to the idea of theistic Satanism as I do not believe in or worship any sort of deity. But, the terms and ideas are getting lumped together, and that’s not correct.

The term “theistic Satanist” is used to describe individuals and organizations that ascribe to a belief system in which Satan, or a similar entity, is considered to be a divine being, an object of worship and/or veneration, and an inspirational force. The beliefs and practices of these groups vary greatly and range from a strictly atheistic view of the supernatural to an elaborate spiritual structure that includes deities, rituals, and a hierarchy of demons. Some theistic Satanists consider Satan to be the originator of sin and evil, while others view him as an avenging angel who seeks to punish the wicked and protect the righteous. Thus, theistic Satanism offers adherents the possibility of a spiritual, philosophical, and moral system that goes beyond traditional Judeo-Christian beliefs and practices.

Theistic Satanists practice rituals and rites that are intended to either give homage to Satan or to express their support for him. These rites may or may not be accompanied by religious artifacts or ceremonial objects. Common rituals include the reading of religious texts, offerings and sacrifice to Satan, summoning and worshiping demons, and the use of magickal spells and symbols. Theistic Satanism is an individual journey which allows each adherent to create their own path and beliefs.

Practicing “theistic Satanism” is largely up to the individual and organizations that ascribe to it. It is a very personal journey that involves developing an understanding of their faith and of the figure of Satan that is meaningful to them. This journey may include researching the history and origin of theistic Satanism, learning about the various symbols and magickal practices that are associated with theistic Satanist beliefs, establishing a regular spiritual practice, and engaging with like-minded people on the Internet or in person. Ultimately, the goal is to grow as a spiritual being and to broaden one’s understandings of the world and its mysteries.
