Witchcraft Act 1735

Instead of assuming as the earlier laws did that witches were real and had real magical power derived from pacts with Satan, the new law assumed that there were no real witches, no one had real magic power and those claiming such powers were cheaters extorting money from gullible people. Witchcraft Act 1735

The Lost Art of Fact Checking

In the early days, it took time, money and effort to publish the news. When a journalist had a story worth sending out, it took multiple people to prepare and load the printing press just to create a single document. Even with the big rolling printing press, it still took time and money in paper and ink to put out the news twice per day. Journalists also followed the concept of verifying a story through 3 different sources before printing it. That was the original “standard.” If a mistake was made, it lingered. Printing a correction, or worse, a retraction, actually meant something. People lost their jobs over publishers eating those costs. Now, it takes mere moments and an inconsequential cost, which is part of the problem. With the new glut of instantaneous information, we are overwhelmed with the old brand of yellow journalism. Being first is better than being correct. It’s more important to have a catchy click-bait headline […]

Aleister Crowley, Not a Satanist

Despite him being on the cover of a Beatles album and the subject of a song by Black Sabbath, Aleister Crowley was not a Satanist. He liked using the Satanic imagery and referring to himself as the Great Best 666, but that was shameless self-promotion. He was also given the moniker of The Wickedest Man in the World, but that was more because of his sexual appetite, drug usage, and some controversy at the Abbey of Thelema. He was a fan of the Ouija and Tarot Cards, both seen as demonic influences at the time. Crowley, played up to the sensationalist stereotype of being a Satanist and advocate of human sacrifice, despite being neither. He denied the existence of both God and Satan.[1] However, Crowley was far more interested in and devoted his studies to Egyptian mysticism, which lead to The Book of the Law, and then to Thelema. Sex Magick and Magick in general were central to Crowley. Crowley […]

The Dangers of the Ouija? Not a Satanic Portal

In movies such as The Exorcist, Witchboard, and Ouija itself, it’s a doorway for demonic spirits to step through, possess people, and cause havoc. In reality it doesn’t do a damn thing. It’s been proven to be a hoax. Cover the participants eyes and they spell out gibberish. So, no matter what charlatans say, there is no Pazuzu or Zozo demon waiting for you to touch the planchette so they can come skipping into town and invade your body. It was also used during the “Spiritualist Movement” as a conduit to the spirit world, but every case was debunked and proven to be a fraud. Houdini was famous for exposing this manner of trickery and even offered a bounty if it could be proven to work. James Randi offered up his own bounty. No one has ever collected. Despite the warnings and the flailing of arms, the Ouija is no more dangerous or mystical than Scrabble. They make for great […]

You know what else is in the Constitution?

Too many “politicians” and religious zealots forget this little gem: their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ Thus, for a politician to make the statement, “This is a Christian Nation” borders on unconstitutional. As we already know, “In God We Trust” is unconstitutional and needs to be removed. It was a mistake to remove “E pluribus unum.” It’s not even a question, it just needs to happen. Lawmakers should read the Constitution, the Amendments, and The Bill of Rights. Maybe then they will stop making an ass of themselves.

How does it affect you?

People need to stop, take a moment and ask, “How does this affect me?” For example, how exactly does the marriage of a couple you’ve never met impact you? Right now, somewhere, a loving couple looked into each other’s eyes and said, “You’re the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. I feel complete.” Do you feel different? Have you changed? This happens hundreds or thousands of times a year and I can’t say I’ve ever felt a change in my life or relationship over it. Certainly not a negative one. I love that it happens and I wish everyone the greatest of happiness in their relationship. So, why do people go into hysterics when it’s a same-sex couple? How does that same loving event negate your marriage? Did it undo the time you’ve spent with your partner? Same question a medical procedure? I haven’t had heart surgery, but I’m glad it exists. I don’t have […]

Biden catches Covid

While disappointing, it’s not unexpected. When you mingle with that many people, something is bound to happen. However, it proves this pandemic is far from over. Even if you’ve been vaccinated and have the booster, you can still get sick. And, just because you’re being cautious, doesn’t mean everyone else is. The symptoms may be “mild” but people react differently. Stay safe out there.

Politicians aren’t making laws “For the People”

When you look at Arkansas and Florida, it’s obvious the politicians aren’t making laws to benefit their residents. They’re not addressing a scientifically dangerous situation. Nor are they righting an injustice. It’s not about lifting people up. Or even to grant more freedoms that enhance the ideal of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Instead, the laws appease God. Individual benefit or need isn’t a consideration. People are conned into believing that, but the sole aim is to spread the word of God, force people to conform to the Bible, and banish a non-existent bogeyman. That you Cotton? Following the Bible, these new laws treat certain groups as less than human. There was a certain brown coat wearing hooligan in Germany who did the same thing. And as we saw, once this fascist ball starts rolling it has a few outcomes:– The Great Purge– Segregation– Slavery– Indoctrination Arkansas and Florida need to realize that being “different” (as they see it) […]

This Covid pandemic isn’t over

Despite the wishful thinking, this Covid pandemic isn’t over. There are lots of comments stating, “Now the pandemic is over…” Or, “With the pandemic behind us…” Things are better for sure, but those are dangerous things to say. Not only is Covid in full swing, it won’t ever go away. Like flu and colds, it’s here to stay. I’m a cycling fan and during the Tour of Italy in May, there were dozens of riders taken out because of positive Covid tests. It’s the second week of the Tour de France, and there are a dozen positive Covid tests again. In my own world, my manager has had Covid twice. At least a dozen people in the company have tested positive. For a company of less than 100 people, that’s a high percentage. The masks are down, distancing is forgotten, and caution is thrown to the wind. People can want for the past, but this is the normal. My extreme […]
