π But, it’s over 300 million years old
There is an odd belief that the world is around 2000 years old. That humankind popped onto the scene fully formed, ready to exert dominion over the Earth. One minute there was a void of darkness, the next there was light and all was good. In a mere 7 days, the entire world and everything in it goes from nothing to something.
It’s an interesting fairy tale, and calling it a fairy tale is putting it mildly. People can barely clean their house in 7 days. It takes that long to put together a child’s outdoor playground. We can’t fix a patch of highway or put up a football stadium in that time, yet the entire universe pops out? That’s the history? Come on now.
Perpetuating this myth ignores everything we know about the world around us. We know for sure there are millions of things older than 2000 years old. Not only are we talking about simple objects like pottery, writings, works of art on cave walls, but much larger, blatant objects like the Earth itself.
- Uluru in Australia is over 300 million years old
- Antartica is closer to 600 million years old
- Dinosaurs are dated to 60 million years ago
- Meteor strikes occurred millions of years ago
- Pangea and continental drift have occurred across millions of years
- There are civilizations easily dated to 50,00 years ago
- There are cave paintings in France from 17,000 years ago
- Several planets have been dated to billions of years old
So, a God popped onto the scene billions of years ago, then sat on his thumbs for millennia, hanging out in darkness? Even though it took 7 days to make things happen, it took billions of years to warm up to actually doing something? Sure, that makes a lot of sense, God in an empty void, wondering what to do with the day. Talk about indecision and procrastination.
That’s a hot bit of nonsense, but what about:
- People from 5,000 years ago had no concept of a single, Biblical God. There are no writings of God, no books about Him, no need to give him a name. God didn’t see fit to pop round and introduce himself?
- People from 17,000 years ago had no concept of God, no paintings of him, no writing about him, no oral history mentioning him. They made paintings of the important things they saw each day, the animals they hunted for survival, fish, the plains they lived on, but no Sky Daddy. Certainly no one named God.
- There is no concept of God in the oral traditions of the indigenous people of Australia, one of the oldest civilizations. There is the concept of the Elders and Dreamtime, but no God makes an appearance. With all that time hanging out on his own in the darkness, you think he would be eager to visit with his creations. Just a little rap on the door and a quick, “Why, hello there. I make all of you and wanted to see how you were doing. Need anything? I’m God by the way.”
- No mention of God in Africa either, the cradle of civilization.
It’s not written down because the God concept hadn’t been invented yet. That would come later when people decided it would be easier to keep track of a single overlord rather than making up stories and names for dozens of them.
There was a god for the sun, the ocean, the crops, the stars, lightning, the moon, etc, etc, etc.
In 50,000 years of civilizations living their lives, improving their culture, and progressing in their lives, there is no mention of God. There are dozens of beliefs to explain what people experienced, but no God, then poof, there he is.
Ironically, all those previous beliefs were unraveled, explained and replaced with science.
Where does thunder come from? Science.
Where do waves come from? Science.
What are those points of light in the sky? Science.
As science has evolved, it’s been proven time and time again that the Earth and the things on and around it are thousands, millions, and billions of years old. Everything predates the Bible and its stories. None of the creation myths conform with reality and what we know to be demonstrably true.
It makes you wonder, why do people keep going back to the Bible? It’s got a few flaws to say the least. It’s chronology of events has no basis in actual history. It tries to warp myths into facts despite evidence to the contrary. It doesn’t explain anything about the known world. Adam was made from dust, then Eve from a rib? Even a child thinks that’s silly and unrealistic.
The Bible and it’s teaching have been proven wrong at every turn, just ask Galileo. So, why are people still touting its wild and ridiculous narrative as truth?
This silly ass book is causing more problems than it’s worth. We should start believing in science and the things we know are true, not trying to shoehorn a misguided 2000 year old narrative into reality.
When scientific ideas are proven to be wrong, books are rewritten with the correct information, and that idea is no longer taught. Time to start applying that idea to other corners.
