The Scopes Trial – Creation versus Evolution

The Scopes Trial, was an American legal case from July 10 to July 21, 1925, in which a high school teacher, John T. Scopes, was accused of violating Tennessee’s Butler Act, which had made it unlawful to teach human evolution in any state-funded school. The trial publicized the Fundamentalist–Modernist controversy, which set Modernists, who said evolution was not inconsistent with religion, against Fundamentalists, who said the Word of God as revealed in the Bible took priority over all human knowledge. Scopes Trial It may come across as farcical, but the idea of religion usurping science isn’t new. While this was handled as a court case, Galileo stood before the Inquisition for stating the Earth revolved around the Sun. Church doctrine stated the Earth was the center of universe, so contradictory evidence was seen as heresy. As religious beliefs overturn science and common sense, we’ll see more legal challenges like this. Texas is probably itching to get started. Nearly 100 years […]

If you don’t want to be called a Nazi, don’t act like one

I thought it was just me making some bad comparisons between Christians, Republicans and some nefarious German characters. A couple of examples: – There is an appeal to the mob mentality and the lowest common denominator.– A need to single out an innocent community and blame them for a moral decline.– Good News Clubs parallel the indoctrination of the Hitler Youth.– Forcing women to become breeders for the Motherland.– Propping up a Trumpler Fuhrer.– Also, pretty sure an “invasion” from Mexico isn’t happening. This is getting pretty frightening. If you search for Republican and Nazi, the articles are stacking up. And no California GOP, it’s not a search engine glitch, this is what people think of you.

Start of the Christian Panic

With Roe v. Wade overturned, Christians have turned women into the very breeders they accused the Satanist of creating in the 80s. Big difference, the claims against Satanists were fabricated. This new Christian breeder program is real.

What’s in a name? Satan the literary invention

Let us be reminded that Satan is a literary invention, not an actual entity of any kind. We’re all aware the original meaning of "satan" is adversary or to obstruct as in: "And there standeth up an adversary against Israel" "let an accuser stand at his right hand." In this context, "satan" is not a name. It’s a person acting in a role. This usage is written dozens of times in the Bible. In the original story, the serpent in the Garden was just a serpent. It was later rewritten adding "Satan" in the nefarious role. That done, lots of other stories were rewritten changing "satan" to "Satan." Further, the modern interpretation and imagery of Satan comes from Dante as well as The Book of Revelations. Again, both written long after the original stories. With Satan now as the villain, several depredations had to take place. "Satan" goes from the most handsome angel to the most wretched of creatures. Again, […]

My Path to Satanism – Lazy Atheist

Lazy Atheist I went back and read parts of the bible. Not only was it a contradiction to itself, but it was guilty of its own satanic acts. The bible has necromancy, blood drinking, flesh eating, child sacrifice, and ultimate destruction through flooding. It wasn’t for me and I became a very lazy atheist. Religion was a pointless topic of discussion. That worked, but several disastrous events and encounters really changed my views. Once I got out into the “real world” I ran into a couple of very manipulative people. “Friends” would take and never give back. I did the work, they took the credit. I set boundaries, they crossed them. Finally, I had an Ex that used guilt and shame at every turn to reshape history and re-image herself as the victim. They were the very Lavey cliche of, sin all week, go to church on Sunday, then do it all again. Far too many started each sentence with, […]

My path to Satanism – Satanic Bible

Satanic Bible This was also the time I found the Satanic Bible by Anton Lavey. It certainly raised eyebrows when I bought it. But, after a thorough read, nothing about the Satanic Bible struck me as “Demonic.” There were rituals, but they were quite benign, certainly no mention of baby sacrifice. In fact, Lavey condemned such actions. I came away with the sense that Satanism was about the self. It had nothing to do with Satan as an entity. It also had nothing to do with drugs, reckless sex, committing illegal acts, or worship of any sort. It was about understanding urges, desires, and needs and not being afraid of them. Sexual desire was normal. Wanting money for material things was normal. Feeling shame and guilt over those desires was a waste of time. By and large it wasn’t bad advice. The Panic was still in full swing by the time I got to college, but away from parental eyes, […]

My path to Satanism – Satanic Panic

Satanic Panic In my teen years, I was in the middle of the Satanic Panic. It started with D&D, then spread to books movies, music and emerging computer games. I wasn’t a devoted player of D&D, I didn’t know enough people, and it was expensive to get the official guides. But, I did play a few times and thought it was amazing. Still do. Using imagination and creativity for world building doesn’t like a dangerous thing. Sounds like a blocky game that made quite a splash not too long ago. But, the wild stories and accusations were flying. D&D took the blame for everything. The accusations of witchcraft made me laugh since no one who played D&D believed you could cast spells, raise the dead, etc. I jumped at games inspired by D&D, like Ultima and Wizardy, and there was no end of talk about the content, symbols, use of magic, and how it was a gateway to the occult. […]

My path to Satanism – Well, how did we get here?

Before we go much further, let me clarify a few things. First rule of being a Satanist, there is no such thing as Satan. Further, there is no devil worship since Satan is not a supernatural entity, but rather a mythical, literary invention. It would also be exchanging one form of submission for another. There is not now, nor has there been the sacrifice of children. That’s a myth. There are no spells, curses, or ability to conjure demons or demonic forces, because once again, they don’t exist. Well, how did we get here? I’m sure my story is similar to a lot of others. In my pre-teen years, I had the usual Sunday school, then church services. From the start, I had doubt. The bible stories didn’t make sense. It was contradictions and events that defied logic. Further, the stories were horrific with men, women and children being put to death. It then culminates with God flooding like a […]

Declaration of Religious Independence and Inclusion

Today is a good day to move from Atheist and the things I don’t believe, to Satanist and the things I do believe. There is massive misunderstanding, prejudice and stereotyping around Satan and Satanism, so why make such a controversial declaration?   Sense of Community – There is strong bond within the Satanic community. All are welcome. All are equals. Protections and freedoms – There are benefits bestowed upon religious groups. Any preference given in the name of religious freedom must be open to all religions. That includes Satanism. Political Activism – The freedoms of others should be respected. This is a secular nation, not a Christian nation.
