Diligence and care for interpreting the Bible, but not for anything else
At first glance, the bible is full on contradictory details, not to mention an abundance of violence, death, murder, vengeance, and child sacrifice.
In trying to sort that, you are met with, “Oh nay nay, you can’t take the bible at face value. It takes careful reading, diligence, and understanding to get the meaning.”
Further, “There are no contradictions in the bible. Those can be explained through misinterpretation, misunderstanding, translation error, or old fashioned typos. Hebrew is complex, there are bound to be a few mistakes here and there.”
These explain why the bible is never wrong and all the bases are covered, even the bit about dinosaurs.
Fair enough. The language is tricky, it’s clearly not in English, and some context is needed. It’s a reach in most cases, but I’m with your meaning.
However, that same diligence and care isn’t applied to anything else. More often than not it’s a split second, knee jerk, media hyped reaction.
Case in point, the Baphomet statue.
Religious groups have no idea what Baphomet is.
It’s not Satan or the Devil.
It’s not a representation of evil.
It’s not a child eating goat monster.
Is it really that hard to spend 30 seconds and get your facts straight before you start losing your mind and crying that curses are raining down because Satan has arrived?
Baphomet is a symbol of balance in various occult and mystical traditions. Since 1856 the name Baphomet has been associated with the “Sabbatic Goat” image drawn by Éliphas Lévi, composed of binary elements representing the “symbolization of the equilibrium of opposites” half-human and half-animal, male and female, good and evil, etc. Lévi’s intention was to symbolize his concept of balance, with Baphomet representing the goal of perfect social order. When viewing the ideas of another group or analyzing the hype presented by yellow journalism media looking to score clicks by any means, do yourself a favor and take a minute to use the Internet for good and check your facts.
You want everyone to double-check themselves before making comment about the bible, why don’t you do the same before spouting off about something you don’t understand?
